During 2021, and especially during the distance learning period when pupils had to study from home, the SMeJse – Slovenščina kot manjšinski jezik (Slovenian as a Minority Language) website published more than 240 pieces of content for different age groups, including both materials provided by various publishers and original teaching units. A new section called Distance Learning – During the Coronavirus Emergency has been created on the site that collects and makes available existing teacher materials that can be adapted and used during lessons.
The Distance Learning – #tkoronačas (www.smejse.it/) section contains:
- teaching units and other educational materials aimed at developing the language and communication skills of various target groups, from preschoolers to pupils, from students to professionals;
- hyperlinks to existing resources, websites, tools, teaching materials and other content produced by various professional, scientific and educational institutions;
- announcements, notices and news about events, activities and projects of special interest for the development of Slovenian language skills in various communicative contexts;
- hyperlinks to books, articles and other materials intended for professional audiences;
- short popular articles in the form of blogs, on the topics of Italian-Slovenian language contact, minority language teaching, language planning, language use, and language skills development.
The portal was created by experts working in the field of Italian-Slovenian language contact, mainly teachers and professors who teach in schools with a Slovenian language of instruction, thus responding to the lack of teaching materials for the specific needs of Slovenian schools in Italy.
The SM(e)Jse portal is a repository of new and existing tools, materials and information for the development of Slovenian language skills. The portal aims to promote exposure to different uses of the Slovenian language in the Italian-Slovenian language contact area, especially in Italy.
