On Tuesday, 2 July 2024, the first public presentation of the CrossTerm project was held in the Tessitori Room of the Regional Council of the Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia.

The meeting was very positive and proactive, all representatives of the project partners supported the importance of this project in their greetings.  Contributors included:

  • Regional Councillor Pierpaolo Roberti, who is also responsible for local self-government, compatriots abroad and minority languages,
  • Assoc. Prof. Dr. Matejka Grgič,
  • Interreg Representative – Claudia Ferluga,
  • Prof. Dr. Jernej Šček, Vice President of SLORI,
Prof. Alberto Scheriani, President of CAN Costiera,
  • Eros Cisilino, President of ARLeF,
  • Prof. Mojca Ciglarič, Dean of the FRI, and Prof. Simon Krek, Director of the CJVT,
  • Prof. Dr. Nadja Furlan Štante of ZRS Koper.

The result of cross-border cooperation between Slovenian, Italian, and Friulian institutions in the CrossTerm project will be a range of useful tools to improve language services. The two-year project, worth just under 600,000 euros, includes the analysis of translation practices, their transfer to different environments, the standardization of terms, and the creation of digital tools. The partners emphasized that multilingualism ensures the dignity of all cross-border residents and improves the quality of life. They also highlighted the need for language equality and the active support of public institutions in resolving language issues, which is crucial for the successful implementation of the CrossTerm project.

It is time for all three languages in the cross-border area to be treated as equal and for multilingualism to be valued, especially by the majority community.
