The author deals with the concept of bilingualism through an investigation into the processes of linguistic analysis in two groups of different language speakers, monolingual Italians and bilingual Italian and Slovene speakers. The results from the behavioural and electrophysiological research confirm a number of previous studies and reveal some possible differences. From the introduction of how the language is structured, to how it is understood and to its electrophysiological correlates, the author follows the description of the anatomic cerebral structures with particular reference to the areas of the brain which regulate the language functions in both monolingual and bilingual individuals.
