The activity of the sport and cultural associations of the Slovenes in Trieste during the Fascist period (under strong denationalisation conditions) played a vital role in the preservation of the Slovene national identity and language. This volume contains a review of the activities held by the Slovene youth, sport and cultural associations in the province of Trieste during Fascism and from their origins during the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Reference is also made to the sporting activity in the province of Gorizia during the same period. The monographic study is completed by a chronological collection of anti-slovene measures laid down by the local authorities and by the special Fascist laws. Photographs of various Slovene circles active at the time accompany the volume.
