The European Commission promotes, since 2005, the European Researchers’ Night. At the end of September, several promotional events take place on a European and local level, dedicated to the affirmation of researching, researchers and their role in society. Within this frame, Slori organises since 2006 a series of events to promote research activities and the researcher’s profession in the field of social sciences. In 2009, these events were organised in Trieste and Gorizia.
The main event was a round table on the topic of a COMMON SLOVENIAN SCIENTIFIC SPACE: PROBLEMS AND OPPORTUNITIES FOR INTEGRATION, organised by Slori in collaboration with the Slovenian National and Studies Library of Trieste and the University of Primorska on Friday, September 25th 2009, at 15.00 hours, in the main hall of the Narodni dom in Trieste, Via Filzi 14.
The event was an important step towards the consolidation of the Slovenian common scientific space in the field of interethnic and intercultural relations, of minority questions and of cross-border cooperation. The solemn signature of the agreement for collaboration between the University of Primorska (UP) and Slori and between the University of Primorska and the Slovenian National and Studies Library (NŠK) was followed by a round table with the participation of: prof. dr. Boštjan Žekš (Minister for Slovenians Abroad), doc. dr. Boris Jesih (State Secretary at the Government Office for Slovenians Abroad of the RS), prof. dr. Rado Bohinc (Chancellor of UP), prof. dr. Rado Pišot (Vice Chancellor for the Scientific, Research and Development Projects at UP), prof. dr. Milan Bufon (President of SLORI), dr. Maja Mezgec (Director of SLORI), Milan Pahor (Director of NŠK), prof. dr. Miran Komac (Director of the Institute for Ethnic Studies – INV), prof. Roberto Dapit (University of Udine), prof. On Friday, September 25th 2009, in the Auditorium of the School Centre of Gorizia, and on Saturady, September 26th 2009, at 10:30 in the Narodni dom in Trieste, took place the presentation of results of the research laboratories organised by Slori in collaboration with the Slovenian social sciences high schools in Gorizia and Trieste. These laboratories are organised within the long-term and consolidated collaboration between Slori and the school’s environment. The aim of the laboratories is to promote research activities among the younger population and is based on a practical research experience. The students, guided by researchers and teachers, carried out a shorter research task and studied the methods of empirical research, in this case a questionnaire-based one. This time, the research task regarded the phenomenon of social networks with particular focus on Facebook. The laboratories were dedicated to students from Trieste and Gorizia and tokk place in the two social sciences schools. The two-week educational experience in “mixed” groups of students from Trieste and Gorizia was sponsored by the Cooperative Bank of the Carso – Zadružna kraška banka and by the Financial Company – Finan?na družba KB1909, which financially supported the travel expenses thus reaffirming the importance of education and research in contemporary society.
