The service is based on language support activities aimed at raising the standard of the Slovenian language in use at the newspaper of the Slovene national community in Italy, a vehicle of linguistic practices and customs that reach from the pages of the newspaper to anyone in Italy who expresses themselves in the Slovene language.
The service provided in 2021 included:
- correction and linguistic revision of the newspaper articles with annexed material on phenomena of linguistic interference between Slovene and Italian;
- drafting of the second edition of a handbook for the use of journalists on the basis of the material mentioned in the previous point, with particular attention to the cases of greatest interest for the linguistic reality of Slovenes in Italy;
- weekly language column edited in rotation by Andreja Kalc, Matejka Grgič, Damjan Popič and Maja Melinc Mlekuž;
- ‘Language first aid’: real-time language counselling service for journalists and other editorial staff in two group chats on Messenger;
- holding language workshops for the publicity department and the authors of Direkt, the Primorski dnevnik column dedicated to young people.
