Commissioned research
Project promoter: Social District 1.1
Project performer: SLORI-Slovene Research Institute
Project implementation period: 2008
The survey about the needs of the residents and about the evaluation of the public social-welfare services on the Duino-Aurisina, Sgonico and Monrupino municipalities was commissioned within the Social-welfare district 1.1 to the Slori institute (Slovene research institute). The analysis is included in the project n. 2 – social-health area “analysis of the needs of the population” – included in the First Zone Plan for the triennium 2006-2008.
The project was supposed to develop a research programme, divided into two time phases. During the first phase (January-March 2009) a qualitative preliminary study was carried out, involving a limited number of subjects, belonging to more vulnerable groups. The analysed target groups reflected the four intervention areas of the District 1.1: elderly, disabled, underage population and exclusion. The technique of the “in depth” interviews enabled a first gathering of the information about the needs of the analysed population and an evaluation of the social-welfare services used by the interviewees. The results were widely discussed in the final report and presented in public in the “Stone house Igo Gruden” (Casa della Pietra – Kamnarska Hiša) in Aurisina, in April 2009.
The second phase of the project (May-June 2009) was dedicated to a quantitative study, aimed at giving a statistical basis to the results gathered during the qualitative phase, but also at analysing better some new themes and aspects. The study was based on 300 interviews carried out by telephone, following the questions listed in a semi-structured questionnaire. The reference sample represented the distribution of the studied population on the territory divided by municipality, gender and age group.
The objectives of the study were the following:
1) gather a set of information about the residents in the municipalities of Duino-Aurisina, Sgonico and Monrupino, so as to allow an evaluation of their general status and of their relation with the reference territory
2) understand the perception of the quality of life among the interviewees’ sample and point out the main problems to be confronted and solved in all the three municipalities included in the research
3) deepen the relation of the citizens with the public social-welfare services, and especially their knowledge of the various structures and services offered by the territory, the procedures for the use of services and the rate of satisfaction as regards their efficiency, improve their knowledge about the intervention options dedicated to the different groups (elderly people, disabled people, young people, children).
The results of the research will enable the customer to:
 analyse the strong and weak points of the structures, of the services and of the information/awareness raising activities on the basis of the opinions of the interviewed citizens
 highlight the districts and develop intervention measures in order to raise the satisfaction of the users and the quality of services in the future development projects of the community
 verify the need for new services and for a better quality of the already existing services, and in particular obtain indications for the preparation of the 2nd Zone Plan for the period 2009-2013.
