The objective of the research was to study a number of aspects connected both to teaching and learning Slovenian as a second or foreign language (SSFL) among the adult population in the Provinces of Trieste, Gorizia and Udine. The project was divided into three research phases: a first one aiming at verifying the state of the art in teaching SSFL to adults on the basis of a thorough inventory and analysis of the current educational offer; a second one aiming at studying the state of the art of adult learning SSFL with direct interviews to students of language courses; the third phase aimed at verifying the success and problems in both teaching and learning SSFL on the basis of teachers’ testimonies, gathered with in-depth interviews.
The results of all three research phases are published in a bilingual (Italian and Slovenian) scientific monographic publication with the title BETWEEN SECOND AND FOREIGN LANGUAGE. Teaching and Learning Slovenian among Adults in Border Areas of Friuli Venezia Giulia.
