A research project financed within the projects on WW1 by Region Friuli Venezia Giulia
Project manager: dr. Gorazd Bajc
Collaborator: dr. Štefan Čok
Project implementation period: 2015-2016
The aim of the project is to cast a more complex glance on the lesser known behind-the-scenes happenings of one of the most important events of the 20th century, which crucially influenced the multi-ethnic area of Venezia Giulia. After the signing of the secret treaty in London at the end of April 1915, Italy entered WW1 at the side of Great Britain, France and Russia against Central Powers. The aim of the project is to explain the lesser known aspects of the negotiations, in particular on the basis of an original analysis and interpretation of primary sources from British and Italian archives.
While working on the project, dr. Gorazd Bajc researched between 9th and 15th November 2015 in the central British archive (The National Archives, Kew-London), and dr. Štefan Čok between 1st and 7th November 2015 in the archives of Rome (Archivio Storico del Senato and Archivio Storico del Ministero degli Affari Esteri). On December 4th, Gorazd Bajc also participated to the international scientific conference in Belgrade at the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts. In 2015, both collaborators started preparing scientific papers on this theme and have been involved in organizing two workshops at the Universities of Koper and Maribor and the international scientific conference that took place in Trieste on March 25th 2016.
