This publication celebrated the 1000th anniversary of the first mentioning of Gorizia in written texts. It includes the contributions of many authors on various aspects of life in this town. These provide us with an overall view on its historic and urban development. The presence of the Slovene language is analysed in written texts from the area of Gorizia over the centuries. There is confirmation of the economic activity and the presence of Slovene organizational structures in the territory of Gorizia. The Slovene-speaking clergy is shown in its role as part of the archdiocese of Gorizia. The volume finishes with an ethnographic review of the customs and festivals in the Gorizia area.
