The publication deals with the process of teaching and learning Slovenian as a second/foreign language (SSFL) among the adult population living in the border area of Friuli Venezia Giulia. In the last years, in the Provinces of Trieste, Gorizia and Udine the interest in learning SSFL is increasing, as is proven by the sharp growth of the number of courses of Slovenian for adults organised by both public and private institutions. As there is a lack in the systematic treatment of such processes, the strategic project JEZIKLINGUA, financed within the Cross-border Cooperation Italy-Slovenia 2007–2013, included among its activities the research Teaching/learning Slovenian as a foreign language, for which Slori is in charge. With the research, a survey and analysis of the current educational offer was made, a poll was administered to the participants of the courses and the verification of the success and problems in learning the language was performed on the basis of teacher’s testimonies, collected with interviews. The results are presented and commented in the publication.
