The volume of the series Mladi v slovenskem zamejstvu: družbeni in kulturni konteksti ter sodobni izzivi (eng. Young Slovenes across the border: the social and cultural contexts and contemporary challenges) subtitled Splošni položaj mladih v slovenskem zamejstvu (The general position of young Slovenes across the border) is the first of four volumes which were published as part of a research project with the same name, carried out between 2013 and 2016 by researchers from four institutes: the Institute for Ethic Studies (INV) in Ljubljana, the Slovene Scientific Institute (SZI) in Klagenfurt, The Urban Jarnik Slovene Ethnographic Institute (SNIUJ) in Klagenfurt and the Slovene Research Institute (SLORI) in Trieste. The research focused on the Slovene youth living in the four countries that border on the Republic of Slovenia and comprised youth living in four different geographical areas: Italy, Austria, Hungary and Croatia. The four core chapters focus on the general situation of the Slovene youth living in neighbouring countries. The theoretical and methodological introduction, the final comparison between the various geographical areas and the conclusions were written by editor Vera Kržišnik-Bukić, while the chapter dedicated to the Slovene youth living in Italy was written by Zaira Vidau.
The general situation of the Slovene youth living in neighbouring countries is relevant from a scientific and sociological perspective. This first volume, aimed at scientists and experts, as well as a broader readership, is an interesting introduction to subsequent volumes issued as part of the project The Slovene Youth in neighbouring countries.
