The publication of the results of the pre-enrolment in Slovene-language senior secondary schools in Gorizia for the school year 2003-2004, which had pointed out the need for a major understanding of the problematic issue of the shift from junior secondary education to senior secondary education was the stimulation for the present research. The survey was carried out among the families of the pupils that had finished their studies in Slovene-language junior secondary schools in Gorizia and Doberdò del Lago during the five-year period 2000-2004. The analysis of the results help to understand the reasons underlying the choice of the senior secondary school and offers useful information about the changes experienced by the Slovene schools in Gorizia and the Slovene minority in general.
